With spring just around the corner, many are thinking sun- after the cold weather came through Paris, many are in need to see the flowers bloom and the sunlight a little longer each day. That feeling is shared with us at Spring (its ok to dream about sun). What to do? Bring in some more good wine- some of that yummy and juicy gamay from Jean Foillard!

2007 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rouge “Belle Dame”
  
Our last offer being a Sancerre Blanc, it seems fitting to follow up with a Sancerre Rouge. In the 1950s, very few winemakers bottled their own wines. In fact, every winemaker in the region was also a farmer who had other crops and animals since it wasn’t possible to make a living off wine alone. Yet during this time, the domaine aimed to make excellent wine. Jean Vacheron travelled frequently to taste wine with the best producers in Burgundy, and so began an enduring family friendship with another producer of excellent Pinot Noir, Aubert De Villaine of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (known shorthand as DRC to wine geeks). Two generations later, the Vacheron estate is now run by cousins Jean-Domique and Jean-Laurent, the two sons of Jean’s two sons.

The Wall Street Journal selected the Spring Wine Club USA for their 2012 "Selfish Gift Guide."

Two things: first, thanks to Alexa Brazilian for having such excellent taste in gifts! Second, the bottles we'll be sending will be much more interesting than the stand-in doubles used for the video and the article. Vincent Laval is justifiably proud of running the first certified organic domaine in Champagne. His father Georges (like everyone else at the family domaine that goes back at least five generations) had never used chemicals in his vineyard, and in 1971 decided to become certified.
